Building upon a highly successful past and current work with the political parties in the country and in the Western Balkans region, with a particular stress on political youths, Forum for Reasonable Policies is working on a project that aims to provide a unique opportunity for a selected number of young politicians and future leaders in their respective political parties and in the society to learn the importance of political responsibility and accountable behavior, the value of compromise and the need for settings democratic and ethical standards in the public sphere.
The project is implemented in a specific contextual setting: pre, during and post parliamentary and presidential elections in 2024. It will address the burning issues of the Macedonian society, namely the prevalent culture of corruption (moral corruption and all other corruptive practices), political (ir)responsibility, unaccountable behavior from the politicians and the low level of trust among the citizens regarding the political processes. It is true, these issues burn for a long time, but the project will directly focus on those individuals that could help reinvigorating the stalled political process in the country. Through three separate but intertwined tailor made activities: (“Warm Up. Elections are coming!”, “Cool down. Elections are over”, “Straighten up! Let’s set some standards.”), a study on the ethical standards of politicians throughout the electoral process followed by a conference, and pilot initiative on devising an index of integrity of politicians and political parties, the project will highlight and lay the groundwork for future ethical and transparency standards for the politicians in the country.
