In its initial phase, the project embarked on a comprehensive analysis of key political issues through the creation of three thought-provoking policy briefs:
“Resignation: When, How and Why?” delved into the complex dynamics surrounding political resignations, offering insights into the ethical dimensions of this critical decision-making process.
“The Virtuous Politician’s Guide” explored the intricate relationship between ethical standards and the electoral process, aiming to ignite a dialogue on ethical leadership in politics.
“A voter or a client?!? How corruption undermines Macedonian democracy” examined the detrimental impact of corruption on the democratic fabric of North Macedonia, emphasizing the urgent need for transparency and accountability.
Building on these foundational documents, the project’s second phase featured a series of exclusive, invitation-only public events. These events served as platforms for esteemed guests and participants, drawn from influential spheres such as think tanks, academia, journalism, and political leadership, to engage in lively discussions and debates based on the policy briefs. The round-table format facilitated an in-depth exploration of the briefs’ contents, encouraging the development of nuanced perspectives and solutions.
Central to the event experience were two videos produced as part of the project:
“30 years later: the ethics of resigning” provided a retrospective look at pivotal moments in Macedonia’s political history (1991-2021) where ethical considerations shaped decisions regarding resignation. The video underscored the ongoing relevance of ethical conduct in political leadership.
“The voice of a journalist: Ethics of the politicians during the election period” showcased the perspectives of prominent journalists, including Olivera Trajkovska, Vasko Popetrevski, Tihomir Iliveski, Nazim Rashidi, and Ana Petrusheva. These journalists shared insights and recommendations on ethical conduct, moral integrity, and accountability in the electoral process, offering valuable guidance to political stakeholders.
The project culminated in a series of “Pop-up Lectures” held at various university departments specializing in law and politics. These engaging lectures, integrated into the regular student curriculum, were hosted by esteemed professors from institutions such as Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, South East European University in Tetovo, “Goce Delcev” University in Stip, Faculty of Pedagogy – Skopje, and American University of Europe – FON. Focused on the theme of “Elections and Ethics: Accountability, Transparency, and Incorruptibility,” these lectures aimed to instill a sense of ethical responsibility and civic duty among future leaders and decision-makers.
