Contemporary cultural policies are not anymore tools and weapons of the high elite.
Today, tendencies have gone much further in the field of civic participation and the development of local cultural policy. In this sense, the relationship between civil society, the legislature and the executive has become an essential nexust that enables more participation, widespread cultural practices and non exclusive clause for every willing and elaborated cultural initiative.
Accent is set on finding channels of communication between these three sectors, especially in the implementation of civic initiatives.
The model of cultural policy practiced in Macedonia is deeply dependant on various non cultural factors: the instability of the political system dominated by unresolved economic relations, the improper functioning of the “cultural market”, along with a general fear and uncertainty regarding the very prospects of the country. These socio-political preconditions also determine the cultural policy, i.e. its undefined existence. This, in turn, generates an audience that is not enough involved and interested in art as well as works of art that are not properly valued.
In such conditions, the key task of people working in culture is to offer valuable and high-quality strategies, solutions and practices that would increase and enhance the cultural participation.
Forum for Reasonable Policies is led by the motto that cultural needs should be developed from an earliest age. Guided by the principle that the development of creativity will increase human happiness and improve the way of life, our ideas will aim to create conditions for improving the free time of individuals in their environment, active participation in cultural living and enabling opportunities for intervention in it.
Starting from one of the concepts of culture developed by R. Williams, of culture being a “body of intellectual and imaginative work, in which, in a detailed way, human thought and experience are variously recorded. “, our goals and actions will focus on:
All this followed by our vision for creating and recruiting independent and reasonable individuals who will responsibly participate in the societal life and bring benefit to the communities.
